Uniting Ministry Around Major Sports Events, What is MSEP? MSEP stands for Major Sports Events Partnership... a movement of agencies that partner in outreach around the two largest sporting events in the world... the Olympic Games and the men's World Cup of Footbal. The MSEP is a "zero-budget, zero-staff" partnership. This movement depends on ministry leaders who commit themselves to partnering.
The 1996 Olympics MSEP project resulted in more than 90,000 churches in 21 countries having outreach and compassion ministries that partnered around the common theme "More Than Gold," based on 1 Peter 1:7. The 1998 World Cup of Football ministry expanded to churches and agencies in 114 countries. The common theme for the World Cup is "The Ultimate Goal." Philippians 4:7 is the theme verse for this outreach. MSEP has agreed to the following structure and terms: - Three task forces were formed in 1998 to work effectively in the partnership:
- Sports Person Task Force, Chairman Alex Ribeiro, Atletas de Cristo
- Outreach Task Force, Chairman Paul Eshleman, The JESUS Film Project
- Resources Task Force, Chairman Gene Habecker, The American Bible Society
- Global MSEP is an annual meeting of global participants
- Country MSEP and City MSEP are local \"bottom up\" planning meetings occuring in every country
More than 70 agencies, mostly non-sports ministries with connections to at least 210 countries, participate in the MSEP. Attendees to MSEP meetings include AMG International, the Anglican church, the Assemblies of God, Campus Crusade, Child Evangelism Fellowship, Christian Broadcasting Network, Four Square Gospel, International Bible Society, RBC Ministries, Salvation Army, Scripture Union, Southern Baptist, United Bible Societies, World Vision, and many regional agencies.
