Andre VosAndré Vos captained the Springboks 16 times, taking over the reins from Joost van der Westhuizen after the 1999 Rugby World Cup. Bobby Skinstad then replaced him as captain and No8, under the coaching of Harry Viljoen and Vos moved to the flank where he again showed he was a world class player. In February 2002 Vos surprised everyone when he said he would no longer be available to play for the Springboks because the physical demands of international rugby were too much. He is so well respected in his homeland that top South African officials including the minister of sport Ncgonde Balfour urged him to reconsider.

Vos was presented with a Silver Sports Award from South African President Thabo Mbeki in March 2002 and was also South Africa's Rugby Player of the Year in 2001.

André Vos is married to Carolyn, and currently plays for Harlequins (UK Rugby Union).
